Synopsis
The Four Cardinal Heroes are four ordinary men from modern Japan who were summoned to the kingdom of Melromarc to fight against the Waves of Disasters "Nami" which have repeatedly destroyed the land and brought disaster for centuries. The four heroes are each awarded a sword, spear, bow, and shield to defeat this wave. Naofumi Iwatani, an otaku, was summoned to another world to become a "Shield Hero". Only by using shield, Naofumi was underestimated and insulted by fellow heroes and people in the kingdom because of his weak offensive ability so that no adventurer would want to fight together with Naofumi.
When the heroes are given resources Naofumi departs with the only person who wants to train with him, Malty Melromarc. He was betrayed and became accused of taking advantage of her. Naofumi then became very discriminated and hated by Melromarc people for something he did not do. With pain and mistrust in others Naofumi began his journey to strengthen himself and his reputation. With a weak combat ability and unable to fight alone Naofumi decided to buy a sickly half-human slave of death named Raphtalia to accompany him on his journey.
